(Just from your prompt, I wrote this. Not sure if this was what you were wanting. Mostly inspired from the musical, Fun Home.)

The world grew small beneath me as I flew above it all. All my life now fit in a tiny landscape, a bird’s eye view of my past. I flew past my backyard where I learned the little things that made everything important. The small things, as they were, that now feel so far away.

Just past my home, I flew above my school, a quick lesson in building a backbone. From this distance, it feels inconsequential- a misstep in life. But where would I be otherwise?

I fly further still until I leave invisible boundaries defining the state I lived in. Invisible boundaries defined by men I’ve never known. Invisible boundaries enforced by men I’ll never know. Beyond these boundaries, I see what my life could be, what I want it to be.

How far do I fly until I see where I still have yet to go?
Where I must go?

When I find it, let me lose my wings.
Let me walk the path, step by step, learning the slow way, up close and personal.
As I have learned everything until this moment.

And when I have learned everything it has to teach me, once again I’ll don my wings and soar above everything.
