Cracked China Soldier

Cracked China Soldier

A Poem by Artemis

Like a soldier returning from war,
I was still me, but not.
I was subdued.
You stole my innocence,
Left me crippled, broken, spiritless

I never believed myself to be so fragile,
Until you took me into your arms,
And shattered my soul.
Now I'm left to search for the scattered pieces,
Lost in my mutilated mind.

I guess I'm really to blame,
I focussed my whole being entirely around you.
I idolized you,
Placed you on a radiant pedestal.
It was only a matter of time before you fell.

I gazed upon you like an angel,
When undoubtedly you were something far more twisted.
You knew how to play the crowd,
a performer if ever I saw one.
You deceived me into trusting you.

I will not make that mistake again.
