Thick as ThievesA Poem by The Last Poetic KingMaybe my muse is coming back? I don't know but I feel satisfied with this piece.
I remember when you said I love you
And I watched your eyes look the other way The way your lips curled when I said the same Foolish of me to have not seen that you were lying straight through your teeth Now and again, I think back about our friendship And you were the friend I deserved And I was the one you needed We were just two nobodies Lost in the halls of Hell Searching to be somebodies We used to laugh at them Back then.. We didn't have a care in the world You reassured me somebody cared When these girls broke me apart You were there to glue the pieces back in place Something I thought would never change I remember when you said I love you And I watched your eyes look the other way The way your lips curled when I said the same Foolish of me to have not seen that you were lying straight through your teeth Those nights in that small town going nowhere Pills in our mouth, cigarettes in our hands, love in our heads but not our hearts The night we spent side by side talking about nothing and everything, Waking you up suddenly, you almost punched me And I fell off the bed, maybe I should have been dead You used to reassure me that it was okay to be myself Lying through your teeth promising that you loved me How foolish I was back then, as thick as thieves we used to be Who would've known that you'd be the very thing that destroyed me? I remember when you said I love you And I watched your eyes look the other way The way your lips curled when I said the same Foolish of me to have not seen that you were lying straight through your teeth In 2007 I met a nerdy looking girl with glasses Who just needed a friend, how foolish I was back then
