The Voice of the PeopleA Poem by ArsenicIts a poem that describes the power of the arts and the power that we as artists hold. The artist's paintbrush, the writer's pen The musician's notes of deepest black As deadly in ther own right As the thundering cannon
Unsuppressable and undeniable The voice of the people timeless in its speech The voice has started wars and call for revolt The voice has sounded the death knell of tyrants and leaders The voice has shaped the world
But while its power as a weapon is great Its power of good is equally strong A lullabye so soft and sweet it brings a childs sleep The wonder of sights unseen captured by the brush While the pen recounts the tales of far away worlds
Those who wield the power must be careful of its use We must not let out voices falter But we must not seek to cause distress where there is no cause Be fair, be bold, be just, be great But be yourself and creations will be worth far more than gold © 2008 ArsenicReviews
