Teach Myself

How could I have been that blind?

How did I not notice?

Its time to teach myself to relax,

But how can I teach myself to laugh?

I've kept my guard up so very long.

I've forgotten how to lower it.

Its time that I drop the mask,

But how can I teach myself to forget the past?

I haven't laughed or cried for so long.

Perhaps I've forgotten how much it helps.

Its time to let the tears fall down,

But how can I teach myself to let it out?

Its hard to smile through the pain.

Its hard to keep from going insane.

I don't know how I should feel,

But how can I make myself whole again?

Its even worse when its been done subtly by ones parents since childhood. Its thinking for myself and not for others thats the hard part. I can't seem to get myself to stop. I put others so much above myself that even when I'm breaking down I'm more worried about those around me than myself. When I see others in pain I do everything to help them, yet I shrug off when I'm in pain saying "Eh, just pain. I can take it." Even when I can't just to make someone whos worried about me laugh.

This piece shows some very imaginative thought! The flow of each verse is smooth and easy to follow. The story is clever and original and it offers the read a different theme.

I'm glad you like it! I was actually referring to a problem I'm having due to how I was raised. ts so hard to break from the pattern I was forced t olive by growing up, that I have no idea how to. poetry seems the best way for me to let the thoughts out.
