Lost LegendA Poem by ArrinaeJust a poem to better explain the back story of the heroine from my short story 'To End the Crusade'Allow me now to spin a tale, Of a legend lost long ago. Back before the magic left, When demons and demigods did roam. There was a young halfbreed slave, An abused and tortured soul. She was set free by a man, One she grew to love. He taught her how to defend herself, And showed her how to be free. And once their love was realized, They traveled separate ways. He had gone to make a home, Where their family could begin. She went on to find herself, And learn how to be strong. When they re-met one glorious day, She surprised him in many ways. Grown in beauty and in strength, Ready for what may come her way. Then one day they were attacked, Trying to help a friend. She took a blade to the womb, And her son lost his twin. No one dared to face them then, In fear of their rage. The little boy's laugh is what did the trick, And made things almost right again. When her love was called to war, She left her son with friends. He wouldn't go to battle alone, She wouldn't allow it. Among friend and foe he died that day, Giving his life for a friend. As she prepared to bury him, She receive news quite grave. Her child taken by a foe, Handed off by a friend. In her rage without a thought, She beheaded him. It was then a call was made, She would lead their fight. The deaths of friends were honored, She couldn't let them be for naught. Finally she found the trail, And went to find her son. When she found them, She knew then. They were too late, Her little boy died in her arms. She gave into rage, With a cry all went white. The fortress trapped in ice, No being would dare go there anymore. No being would ever leave, She decided then what to do. Dismissed all but ten men, She led them to a valley pass. Where the final foe waited, With a hundred men. Three days passed between them all, Many met their fate. With a smile she took his blade, Straight into her lung. Her smile grew as she coughed, As a spear grew from her hand. The general then did have no chance, The ice had pierced his flesh. With a bloodied cough escaped a laugh, As the light faded from her eyes. All the dead were sacrificed, Their souls gathered into one. In a flash the magic left, No longer in the world. One by one the demons vanished, Along side the demigods. That was the birth of the veil, Which still keeps the magic away. She has been reborn again, Forever to keep the peace she'd made.
