Ode to the Painted Dog

Ode to the Painted Dog

A Poem by Arpeggi
"

I left the rhyme scheme in there. Sorry if it's distracting.

"

a. Ode to the dog of twenty shades
b. Rendering the boundaries between primitive and prim
a. Whose snarls avert mortal crusades
b. Of which records have continuously proven grim
c. Alarming onlookers with a hollow gaze
b. Their ancestors fell victim to the snare of a hind limb

c. Battling to break free from a human maze
d. Snatching dim prey from the farmer’s land
c. The painted dog pants, with hackles raised
d. Unable to escape encroaching demands
e. Swiveling ears trap the sonic vibrations from a gun
d. Of which can only be fired by a human hand

e. Flashing tails that were bleached by the sun
f. They contend to shed their vermin name
e. Evading impairment, they furiously run
f. For all beasts, intent is the same:
g. Keenly regard those who are not your prey
f. And always fight the notion of growing tame
