Speak Up

Speak Up

A Story by Touché Armada

Just basic observations of so many writers.

Speak up! of your true self, thoughts, feelings, dreams, desires... Writers are such prostitutes of language (for the want of better expression). So often we write covert, covered so thickly in metaphor most people have no idea of the true meaning we convey. Why do we do that? Mostly because writers are cowards? We are all guilty of standing on a seesaw that is going to hit the ground yet write toward the raised end to balance ourselves out or in fear of flight tunnel toward burning pits, rather than a burning heart, or abuse the world when its not the world we mean to abuse. Even as people who may not be great writers (I am not great) we know we do this, we know we hide behind words so often untraceable to any source, so when poet or story writer is dancing naked we don't realy see, when we are huddled beneath blankets shutting out the world we don't realy see, when hearts are truly broken we don't realy see, when love is streaming from a roof top of the world’s tallest building we don't realy see. We don't see! why not?
It’s because every write is a proclamation, writers know better than to attempt to capture and tame the wildly free stream, fed from someone else's melting snow in warming sun or from flooding rain, to hold it gently, try to make it one’s own, when one knows each stream will spill along having many faces reflected off its surface, as it should, we drink from so many a stream, so many a stream is sipped from so many a cupped hand to pursed lips.
When a writer writes perhaps it’s better not to try to tilt ones personal scales but rather sink and soar, love and hate as our own words rush through and over us with less masquerade and modest dress when the times feel unabashedly naked or vulnerable, perhaps on fire. Perhaps if writers wrote this way we would seem far more credible? I don't know. As long as writers know the writer enjoys the relationship with an immaterial voice from inside, a slave to our muse at that moment, it just isn’t practical to try to catch fireflies, butterflies, rainbows, bugs and wild horses.  Most people prefer a personal letter, phone call or chat I find... Sky writing and public notices in the news paper are always missed by whom its intended if indeed its intended for any single individual, when people walk chin on chest watching their footfalls and no one really reads newspapers anymore.
A blanket message to all speak up.

Interesting...In my limited experience, most writers write because they want to. Whatever the topic that the choose. Others react to what they write in whatever way they do, for they either can relate or not.
I don't think writers are cowards though..that seems a bit harsh to say. Perhaps cautious...That i can see.

Even when a writer becomes good and puts their sole effort into getting to be known, it's still a shot in the dark if they hit their mark.

I think writers have more time to chase butterflies and catch wild horses then most people. If that's what they find enjoyable that is.

Perhaps writers just write to clear their own soul of stuff they feel should be cleaned out?
Or maybe they just want to share, even if no one understands?
I don't think in the long run it really maters. Since unless one becomes famous, the public really never see's them anyway.

Interesting piece.

I really enjoyed the theme of this. And it's refreshing to see passion expressed well.
The question of why writers may write in a way where people don'tsee the meaning of what we're conveying - well I wonder about that myseklf. I mean, is it to do we trying to conceal some part of ourselves, and being cowards? Other times I think that in order to be truly honest we should try and write as soon as ththought is there, without hesitation, like stream of consciousness approach. But then, ther chances are our writing will be less accessible, harder to understand. But those who do understand it will be of a very similar mind and it will be a more profound connection. It's hard to know how flowery or blunt to be in order to get something across.

You said perhaps it's best to sink and soar. I agree. (And I think I take the same approach to life). Rather than edit and control, it's sometimes best to immerse yourself within things.

Why do we put our words here for strangers to read and cringe when those who know us and love us read them? We are Cowards. Even when I write in the plainest words I know that only a small percentage of those who come and read will really understand what I mean.I know this and yet I don't try and change it.

It could be we don't want to admist what monsters are lurking in the depths. . . It could be that we don't want to know what hides in the dark. . .

Beautiful words here and so important.
