The Pain Remains

The Pain Remains

A Poem by Arlene Fleisher
"

Written 5/10/06 from my thoughts and feelings after sitting outside, sharing a cup of coffee with our dog at 5am... body wracked with the pains of rheumatoid arthritis

"

Awake

Alone in my pain

While the whole house sleeps

Oblivious.

The hooting of an owl

For company.

Does he feel my pain?

He sounds like he does.

Small comfort

But it's there

Sharing my tears.

And then... he's gone

And the pain remains.

i can relate to this feeling. ...and it brings back memories of my Grandma, lying in pain, but never complaining. She was such a strong woman...

anyways....

the beginning part:
Awake
Alone in my pain
While the
whole house sleeps
Oblivious.

So true, so sad and frustrating. Everyone else gets to have peace and rest while you lie awake in pain :(

Thanks for sharing this poem.

So sad and powerful. The internal sadness comes at will. The quiet morning when we have too much time to think. We are at Will at things missed and lost. A excellent poem.

Good write, and BELIEVE ME I CAN RELATE! It's sad yet you painted a picture that I can see in my mind, sitting outside, the owl hooting and even the pain. ;)

the hooting of an owl really does sound like heartbreak. i am glad to read this.

you share a sense of lonliness here that borders desperation.

great write.

i'm sorry this review isn't better. i'm very tired right now.

I do not suffer from RA, but I do have chronic pain. I can empathize, but not much else. I hope that since that morning you have found a source of relief.

Oh, so sad... I could almost feel your pain, too. It sounds so mournful.
