This is how I'd Rather LiveA Poem by Arjun SinghAs
I traversed across the path men do term life, I
chanced upon a fellow traveller, gay in his thoughts, oblivious to his
fellow's plight. He
made merry, danced to his tunes, And
told anyone who'd listen; how to live life, akin to him, with its feathery
plumes.
'When
life throws a curve ball your way, a problem, a lemon your way, Suck
it up, make lemonade, bask in it, be gay' As
he preached to one and all, his thoughts had much effect upon me, I
took unto myself to spread his message, to my fellow brethren who yearned to be
free.
As
I walked further down the aisle of life, I chanced unto a man, To
me, he was strange, as sad, yet happy as a man can. I
don't know what got over me, and yet I did share with him what that peculiar
peddler of emotions had preached, that saint had
related unto us a weapon, to deal with life itself, with all its dangers
quaint.
He
stared at me for a moment,, his wise little eyes locked with mine, and then he
smiled, But
before I could say something further, he cried. I
sat still, uncertainty to my mind clang, But
the idea that I had caused that outburst, stung me like a fang.
'I
met yon same traveller’, he confessed 'And
took unto myself the apparel of the endeavour in which you are now
so philanthropically dressed.' 'I
got so obsessed with this notion that I did not care for the sugar I had over
the years toiled to pile When
the first curve ball hit me, and I saw my loved ones, on walls, as
mosaics tiled.
I
took all the lemons, tasked myself to make the lemonade I had so long
preached of making, But
found no water, to dissolve the very same sugar or lemon, but their toll they
had been taking. I
realized how wrong in my thoughts I had been, And
now I’ll spread this message as long as I will.
Take
care to pile your sugar, your happy moments you’ve cherished, Take
all your lemons, your sad moments you’d rather that perished, And
mix them, use it to make your lemonade, with a selfless spout, But
in the process, don't lose your loved ones, the water you can do nothing
without. © 2015 Arjun SinghAuthor's Note
