This I Believe

I had to write a monolouge for Theatre class, that started with the words "This I Believe". Here's what I came up with.

This I believe

Through the light and through the dark

That every human being

Truly has a heart

 

Some do really show it

Like Gandhi or Mr. King

And others hide it deep

Like Bin Laden and evil thieves

 

Your faces show disgust

When Osama’s name is spoken

But truly, help me here

What if his heart was broken?

 

Although there is much evil

And hate shows in our eyes

True love is really there

Shining through the lies

 

Who really is the good guy?

Life isn’t a fairy tale

The evil don’t just step out

Or even always fail

 

Our countries come together

When bad things take place

Human hearts aren’t there

Just to take up space

 

Even when the darkness

Shatters fragile light

Love is radiating

From every human life

 

So this I do believe

Through the light and through the dark

That every human being
