The Old Bench (Thoughts On The Bench PT. 2)

The Old Bench (Thoughts On The Bench PT. 2)

A Poem by Aries1984
"

Just had the words pour out couple nights ago as I sat down on my favorite bench in my neighborhood after a long evening walk. The weather has been getting nicer and so I have been getting out a lot.

"

So we meet once more this dry cool night
And once again, I reflect and ponder
And once again I begin to wonder
Sitting under the street light.

The cars zoom by the people socialize
As I sit and observe this moving picture
Of nightlife coming out of an urban scripture
And I begin to slowly visualize.

The night I was acquainted with you
And the thoughts written on your metal strips
The ones that rose and came falling down in drips
Those seldom words of wisdom in full view.

A year went by and now their gone
Nature has eaten up ink of a "permanent" marker
Though the night is young it's only getting darker
I could sit here pondering all the way till dawn.

The street is buzzing the bikers are biking
The bars are open with their live music
A scene that is rather therapeutic
Of a part of town that's historically striking.

My childhood was spent growing up where you stand
My youth was spent walking this street
Hear that roaring sound? It's the bus engines "beat"
And the music coming from a nearby live band.

I don't know what the future has in store
I don't know if I'll reside in this place
That thought only causes my heart to race
It only makes me anxious more and more.

Or will I meet my Prince Charming here one evening
While I sit here turning a scene into verbal art
Feel his strings pull at my heart
On a bench where I seem to keep ceaselessly dreaming.
