Every night I wonder, what lurks in the darkness behind my bedroom door.
I sit here in my brightly lit room at night Looking at the darkness seeping in through the bottom of the door For behind it, waits what loves to give fright Making me wonder just what's in store.
What stands behind me that which shields me with light? Whats in that terrifying deep darkness? Why do I fear the darkness of night? Could it be the uncertainty of it being harmless?
The feelings I feel, the images I get Of what could possibly be waiting behind that door It brings the chills, the isolation, the fret Of something sinister and much more.
The feeling of being watched by eyes That can see me, but I can only feel The fear inside of me begins to rise The insidious unknown is real.
The insidious unknown is certainly real For darkness defines that which is creepy An unexplored territory requiring reliance on touch and feel In the darkness that penetrates so deeply.
Yet my mind conjures that on the other side Is an entity about to grab hold of the knob And just at any moment I expect to hide Just in case that door begins to throb.
"A dark shadow figure must stand there" I say I feel it's sinister red eyes trying to pierce through the door And it's because of this every I pray For God to keep me safe and put an angel on the floor.
So I keep that door all locked and shut Against what can frighten me to the core Because I don't exactly know just what Lurks behind the door.
What's behind the door is the unexplored territory of your future. That unknown thing that exudes anxiety in a lot of us. Besides that, I like this poem for the way you wrote it and the suggestion that there could be something more ominous waiting on the other side. Interesting, very interesting.
