Trees Of Life

Trees Of Life

A Poem by Aries1984
"

About the life that can be found in a place where death resides.

"

I cut through the cemetery on my way home from work
The setting sun illuminating the shadows of the grave markers
A place where sadness and morbidity lurk
A place where death conquers.

The silence of the place permeates the air
Life preserved there turned this place into a historical cocoon
All who were buried there
Their legacies live in a place of gloom.

But the trees around this eloquence
This peaceful thought-provoking essence
Is the only living evidence
Of life's own presence.

They are planted near the gravestones
A symbol of life remembered
Their roots go deep into the deceased remaining bones
Where the deceased was once entered.

Where flesh was buried in the ground
Thoughts and memories are left with the living
It's a place where life is found
In the planted trees that keep giving.

A home for all creatures big and small
A shade for the grieving heart
A branch to hang memories that enthrall
And keep the heart from breaking apart.

They are a home on the spot of morbidity
Producers of life in the place of death
They stand there, and expression of sympathy
And give us the chance to take a breath.

When death takes our life
And it seems like it has won
At cemeteries the trees thrive
By giving life where there is none.
