The Stars in the Sky

This poem was inspired by a scene from the movie Kon Tiki.

I look up at you all
As you all gaze down on me
Like I'm standing on the world's stage
With a million tiny lights as far as I could see.

I look up in still mesmerism
You all gaze down on me with protective guidance
I wonder about all of your worlds in the distance
As I look up at you all in awe inspiring silence.

I'm sure you're all curious too
I wonder what you're all thinking
I'm only but a small speck of dust in this universe
As I look at you all, at me, you're all blinking.

Are you all as curious about me?
As I am about your grand wonders
Do you all wonder how many of my kind
Are created, in terms of numbers?

I wonder what you're all thinking
When you gaze down upon this earth in which I live
To us little humans you all provide so many things
Like the lights that you all give.

Do you all like what you see?
When you all gaze down upon us with your guiding lights
Because when I look up at all of you floating in that dark black mass
You all bring peace and comfort to the nights.

Is it true that you're all celestial beings?
Of people who left this earth
When it will be my time to go
Will I too, get to experience this new birth?

I hope to one day join your ranks
To continue your eternal calling
To shed light upon this dark earth
To keep it from falling.

For you all gaze down on us
Whether we are good or bad
You all gaze down on us
In times if happy and sad.

You all bring about a peace
When hearts and minds are in distress
That when looking up at you all
Your twinkling grandeur never ceases to impress.

You all cause the mind to get lost in thought
My imagination starts to run wild
That upon looking at all of you, I realize
That compared to you all, I'm only like a small child.

A small child who daily needs its parents
A small child with a wild imagination
Of what your worlds must feel and look like
Yet your eyes are twinkling at me, this interesting little human creation.

So as I look up at the sky tonight
As you all gaze down on me providing a spectacular, breathtaking view
In this mesmerizing silence, you all help me realize
That I am made out of all of you.
