The Art of Spoken Word

Sometimes poetry expressed says a lot more than just mere words which are written on paper.

The art of spoken word

Is a form of expression

When the heart hides it’s hurt

It uses this language to express its confession.

 

When the mouth can’t utter the right words

To express how the heart feels

It uses the hands that inserts

The feelings the heart seals.

 

For what cannot be spoken

Can only be expressed

To the mind that has not awoken

From the words rising from the chest.

 

It can only be shown

To the one who can’t understand

Of that which is unknown

And in mere words hard to comprehend.

 

For spoken word is poetry in mental motion

The expression lies in the tone of voice

It brings about a strong emotion

When the heart is left with only this choice.

 

To express how it feels about the world around it

Or about its affection for its secret admirer

How it’s dealing with that love or its split

The soul is the hearts driver.

The visual graphics can be an option

If the artist of words chooses them to be

For spoken word is the caption

Of conveying feelings of the hearts soul that isn’t free.

 

It’s the inner self that is always crying

That desires to be heard

And therefore it is trying

To express itself through the art of spoken word.

The spoken word of the heart enables one to show more feeling with the words of the heart and you have done so very well here my lovely friend! I also like to use my audio poems to try to bring out some feeling to my poems at times if possible on my soundcloud site .

I grew up in a strong Russian culture where oral recital of poetry, or reenactment of it, is almost like a pass time activity. Although, you will probably find it surprising that I have never been to an open mic event. Well at least not yet. Most of the spoken word I've seen in my life was done in church. Russian churches really appreciate and encourage people to express their faith in creative ways, whether it be through music or through reciting poetry. So that is how I've seen most of it. Some people think that there's this correct way of reading poetry out loud, especially when they are reciting it in front of an audience. I think that it is just important to take a peace, read it to yourself, ponder about what the words mean to you, and then just be yourself when you read it. Get in tuned with your own feelings.
