Old Timer

Old Timer

A Poem by Aries1984
"

I sometimes find myself in foreign territory in today's world of hip-hop. I'm not against it, I love hip-hop and spoken word. But I like to make a connection between the classical and modern.

"
I guess you can call me an old timer
I guess I live in the past
I like to sit and eat at a diner
And read classic poetry which has surpassed.

Surpassed all time and still going
Spoken Word today cannot even compare
Those words even steal the hearts of the all knowing
Like some bohemian love affair.

I guess you can call me old fashion
I don't always live in today
History and science are my heart's passion
And poetry is where my mind goes astray.

I like to listen to old time Gospel
It brings me back down to my knees
It's lyrics are like from a classic novel
Sailing to the soul on time's seas.

I write for the same reason anyone does
I collect my thoughts outside
I like to think about things we seldom discuss
Or I write about deep feelings that I tend to hide.

Feelings that I can't share with no one else
Feelings no one can understand
My heart speaking of emotions it only tells
It's story to those, who like me, know firsthand.

What it means to write to get your cry across
Creatively expressing thoughts realistically
I do not write to seek respect or applause
I write to express myself artistically.

I guess you can say that I'm out of date
I live in a different period of time
I try to find beauty in every state
Of life which is sublime.

So I guess I must be a bit old fashion
But I in no way compare to my classic poetic inspirations
Who wrote with such time surpassing passion
Surpassing many generations.
