Grateful

Grateful

A Poem by ArialChase

I cry!
The only thing I can do - cry.
On the floor, unable to move,
her in front of me - helpless.
She's but a few feet away
and all I do is cry.
'No!' I shout 'please,'
I whimper through sobs.
I can't stop her.
I am right there but can't stop her.
Her hair fell below her shoulders,
wet from tears, glowing with blood
Liquid life dripping from a knife in her hands.
The knife guilty of trying
to kill an innocent girl.
Deafening screams bring me back.
My own are only louder.
Moments later, our struggle for the knife ends,
and it lies what seems miles away.
Out of her reach...
for now that is enough.
Her head on my lap,
the silent tears flow.
Out of joy or sorrow,
I do not know.

But for her life,
I am GRATEFUL!
