Possibility

An irrational fear fed by actuality.

I stared down the possibility

Of my biggest fear, tonight.

I could have lost you.

You could have been taken from me.

 

No goodbyes. No whispers of love.

Just gone. Whisked away, like a leaf in the wind.

 

The thought of that tears me apart inside.

Losing you will indeed kill me.

If not physically, it will kill my soul.

 

What would be the point of going on?

What would be the use of trying to love?

I couldn’t do it. My heart would be dead.

It only can belong to you.

 

Can’t you see how much that scares me?

Do you see why I can’t sleep at night?

Visions of that possibility keep me awake.

 

No goodbyes. No whispers of love.

You can’t go anywhere.

 

You promised me.
