This piece is based on a personal history with the song by Shakespeare's Sister.. & recent events in my life..

A cold empty heart.

That's what you've

left me with.

No hope for the future.

No help forgetting the past.

Just left me here,

an aching hole in my chest.

You did the one thing

you promised never to do.

Tore out my heart

like it's nothing new.

How do I recover?

How do I make the demons leave?

How do I fight off the pain?

How do I keep the razor blade

from my arm?

How can I be strong?

A cold, empty heart.

That's what you've left me.

It's hard to stay sane.

You broke your promise of "Stay".

Such deep sadness and emptiness in this piece, wrapped around the bitterness of betrayal. Perhaps we can keep from harming ourselves with the knowledge that we cannot control what others do, only how we respond to it. We turn to those in our most sacred circle and hang on to the hope promised by a better tomorrow. Well-done, Ashley.

Damn this was a dark deep piece. You used some powerful words in this poem that leave the reader no doubt how hurt you are. Good work :)
