This piece was inspired by my love for the ocean and ocean life...

Can you see it?

Can you see how its beauty is being tainted,

By the black gold we seek?

 

Magical creatures covered in the tar.

Weighing them down.

Sinking beneath the deep.

 

What happened to

Our once crystal waters?

Our beautiful shores.

Were they ruined by man’s demand for more?

 

The life of the ocean struggles

To once again be free.

But who got them there?

Was it you?

Was it me?

I live a stone's throw away from the Atlantic - I was born and raised on salt water. It's a shame that we have to continue to ask these questions when we have so much technology at our disposal. However, in man's greedy haste, much of nature gets destroyed and that is unfortunate for when it's gone, it's gone. Great write, Ashley.
