We Hold These Truths

We Hold These Truths

A Poem by Arezzo

They're Liberty's sons, as we all know --
Washington, Jefferson, Madison, Monroe,
and then the Andrews, Jackson and Johnson. Also,
Lincoln's righteous sabre, US Grant. They gave
democracy, a Bill of Rights.  Home of the Brave!
They define our goodness. And oh ...

they all owned slaves.

Seems like a cruel boss that Lincoln, to free Grant's slaves while he's off fighting a war. It may not have been the best timing, but it was a good thing to do. Johnson... Haha
