On The Mound

On The Mound

A Poem by Arezzo

It’s tough on top.

Tough, and lonely.

I mean, what if you’re a flop?

You must deliver. You only.

Here you are, on enemy ground,

shaping up.  Up on the mound.

Bases loaded, two guys out.

Knuckle-ball, or slider?  Choose.

Shake your head.  Dispel the doubt.

Walk him, and we’re gonna lose ...

As I’m about to wind and throw,

the female speaks up from below:

“You Hot-Shot Luke, or just luke-warm?

Gonna let one go, Curt Schilling,

or you just talking up a storm?

The flesh is weak.  What’s left that’s willing?”

Cracking little number. Hold out for an open mic poetry event at a sports bar.

I'll do that and thank you very much! (Other reviewers have completely missed the sex joke)

You are so right. It is lonely and tough at the top of any trade, profession and competition. An excellent write, sir...:)..........
