Chapter five

Chapter five

A Chapter by Archia

For the third time that day I roused through the cupboards, pulling out tins and packets, anything that could quench our starvation that might soon arrive. I thought to the hastily devised plan forming in my head; get out of this town. How, I did not know, not yet anyway. We couldn't climb the slick walls that enclosed us, to scale their height would be impossible. Our only chance was the gates. The two single gates with bolted doors, two people standing vigil both day and night. No one questioned why they wanted to keep us in, and if they did Eternity would be their destination. People didn't question anything these days.

He was still sitting on the couch when I touched his shoulder. "It's time to go."

He just nodded and rose.

By the door I paused, looking back at the small place I had made my home.

“If you take me to them, they’ll leave you alone.” He whispered quietly.

But I wasn’t giving up this boy. “Let’s go Son.”
