Back to the Wilderness

Back to the Wilderness

A Poem by Archishman Rick

Back to the wilderness I go,
No further lessons left to take,
From the land of smiles in sorrow,
That would shine through us while awake.

The hourglass we knew as see-through,
Granted little temporal clue,
Too awed by its smooth sand to realize,
The boulders with which time really flies.

With pretence and conditional love,
Envy and lust that could devour,
We still travelled the roads smooth and rough,
Making the adventure with honour.

Calm that lacks clarity let me know,
There still hover things worth fighting for,
So back to the wilderness I go,
To grow in spirit beyond before.

A philosophical offering here. The speaker apparently withdrew from the world after experiencing its shortcomings, possibly engaging in some kind of meditation. He found, though, that "calm without clarity" was not sufficient, so now he is ready to confront the world again, for "there still hover things worth fighting for." What I think is that there must be a balance between the inner and the outer spheres.

This is right up my philosophical alley. I believe everything in nature to be a representation of a greater spiritual truth. We have to ferret out the lessons for ourselves. The world is a classroom and nature is a brilliant professor full of age-old wisdom. What better place to begin our instruction than in the wilderness under the careful tutelage of heaven and earth? I enjoyed the read.

As we age that sand slips through the hour glass faster. A time when we can reflect on our lives and spiritual development. Much to ponder on here my friend. Nicely composed lines.
