The bell at school rang loudly in Volt’s ear, shattering her hearing, and mirroring her shattered interior. Why had she reacted so strongly against him? Why didn’t she believe him when he told her about his hunch? It was true they were never wrong. Was she really going to let Darius suffer where ever he was because of her petty jealous pride? She sighed and picked up her things, walking dejectedly to class feeling utterly dead.
Was she going to lose her best friend to some boy who they had barely met? After all they had been through was now when the third party joined in the time for things to break? When crisis had developed? When Dare needed her the most. She bit her lip and twirled her hair around her finger, standing right outside of her next class. It was time to make a choice.
“Volt? Are you coming in? Where’s Dare?” Her teacher asked her.
She didn’t respond, her heart was pounding, it was now or never, go in the class and forever close herself off from Dare or leave the class and rekindle the flames of their friendship. She took a deep breath snapping out of her dead state, the clouds of depression lifted from her mind, she knew what she had to do.
“He’s not here, and I’m not going to be either, you can mark me absent today.”
And with that closing remark, she turned and ran down the hall whipping out her cell phone as she went.
“Dare, where are you?”
