Chapter Seven/Eight *untitlted*

A Chapter by Tsukin Archangel
"

Welcome to Family Dinner, i suppose the Most awkward time ever for Dare, and of course the new added layer his brothers drug addiction~ FAMILY PROBLEMS WOOT!

"
The two of us walked down the hallway, and I fiddled with my shirts collar nervously, unable to get enough air. Had the hallway always been this narrow I wondered to myself, and long? We reached the end and headed into the formal dining room, where my parents sat, still clad in there lab coats, a feast sitting on the table, a feast that was made to draw you in, a feast that was meant to be your tomb, once you took a bite, there was no turning back.

“Hello Damian…Vanessa,” My mother said nodding gently to both of us, her voice calm and direct, as if she was about to punish us.
“Hi Ms. Scottsdale,” Volt said nervously, not daring to correct her name.
“Have a seat,” My dad told us gesturing to the two in front of us.

We sat down and I vaguely wondered how they knew to set five places instead of  four. They always seemed to know when Volt was going to come over for dinner. The two of us sat there uncertainly, my parents eyes locked on us.

“Well go on, eat something,” My mom said gesturing to the food on the table.

I gulped, and the two of us began to fill our plates with what we wanted. I tentatively took a bite, this was the moment they had been waiting for, I was stuck now. My parents upon seeing the two of us start eating began to eat there own food, their scientist eyes never really leaving us.
As I might have mentioned before, I had said the Mr. Volt was one of the scariest people on the planet, now in front of me, sat the king and queen of fear, and they were the people who gave birth to me, who I had to sleep under the same roof with, my parents.

We started the meal off in silence. The two of us feeling like we where being dissected by their eyes, the look they gave like we were just their experimental mouse was almost consuming. I felt like they were stripping away all that was me, slowly categorizing it into columns to use as reference later. Finally my Dad broke the silence.

“So, where’s Ryan?” He asked.
“I dun’ know,” I said, “We don’t hang out at school.”

What I didn’t mention was that I saw him everyday making out with some other cheerleader on the bleachers after school…he was definitely the w***e of the football team. You had to wonder when he’d come home and say one of those girls was pregnant.

“Oh well looks like he wont be joining us…again,” My mother said the word again like a threat, and I knew that she’d kill him later, not that he’d care, he’d prob come home drugged up or something by then.

“How was your day?” I asked trying to break the tension.
“Oh the same as usual, we found a new species of fish, and discovered a rock we believe could produce clean energy,” My dad said, “You?”

I took a bite out of my food and answered.

“Well, we got a new transfer student today, and Volt almost died, nothing besides that,” I said.
“Oh transfer student?” My mom said, perking up, completely ignoring the bit about Volt almost dying. My mom was a sucker for gossip, “How is he?”
“He’s…I don’t know…different,” I said.
“Would you consider him a friend?” My dad asked, I could see he was almost begging me to say yes, I’ve only had one friend since moving to California and that was Volt. They wanted me to be more social, and the prospect that I might finally have made a new one made them both very excited.

“Yes…well, no, more like an acquaintance,” I said unsure of myself.

“Oh…well…invite him over tomorrow, we can give him a proper welcome to California,” My mom said with a smile.
“Ok,” I said, subtly groaning, I guess I’d have to befriend the guy now.

The rest of the meal was relatively quiet, the silence only broken when Volt said that she had to head back home before her parents killed her. It was only six at the time and I knew she just said that to get away from the awkwardness of dinner, so I sent her death stares all the way to the door, knowing better than to tell them that she wasn’t supposed to be home till nine.

Thirty minutes later, I had my fill of food, and pie, and cake, and ice-cream and began to clear the table, putting the dirty dishes in the washer and the food into containers to be eaten throughout the rest of the week. Just as I placed the last of the dishes inside the washer, I heard the door open, and Ryan walked through the door.

“Mom, and Dad are gonna kill you,” I said to him leaning my neck back to look him in the eye ( I was sitting in a chair at the time).
He sniffed, his eyes red, “Whatever, I’ll deal with them later…what’s to eat?”
I rolled my eyes and got up from where I was sitting, creating a barrier between the refrigerator and him, “Are you high? Again?”
He tried to push past me, “None of your business pipsqueak“

I moved slightly to block him again, and put my hands on his face, keeping his eyes open. They where red, and his pupils where dilated even in this light. I groaned.

“Really? This is becoming a problem Ryan, you’re gonna get kicked off the team, stop hanging out with those dudes, man, they’re bad news.”
“Shuddup, you don’t know what you’re talking about.” He made another break from the fridge.
I let him open it and sighed, “How can inhaling a burning leaf be good for you?”
“It just is, ok?”
I shook my head in disgust, “It’s not, but obviously you aren’t gonna listen, let me just say this, either you stop with your own will, or I’ll get someone else involved, someone like our parents, and you know they’ll take you off the team and you won’t be able to get any more of those girls. You’ll just be another outcasted, teen screw up, waiting around for your next fix.”

I began to walk out the door, “What ever changed between us Ryan? We used to be so close.”

With that closing remark, I left the kitchen and headed upstairs to do my homework, one of the few normal things I had to deal with.

The next day, the whispers began.
