A Poem by arcandon

Why crows surround me

when i’m dying to explore

pigeons when chess moves in the park

i’ll never know

why seagulls call the beach

i drift home

passing don’t share vultures

toughen when i’m hungry or alone

and magpie pot planters

form a ladder to my room

where i’ll never know

when is best for them to go

so i can scatter my shells

and they can return to their nest

and my thoughts of you

can save me at my best

Sometimes I think sites like this don’t make any sense because some really good writing just sits and nothing is said about it. But I know that’s not what their about, I know that.

Anyway, I’m really glad I stumbled on your page. I’m not really sure how I ended up here, but here I am. And. Having read several of your poems I feel disappointed that they have sat here for however long and you’ve gotten so little feedback.

Your poetry is intriguing (as one reviewer mentioned) because it leaves room for mystery and every poem is a story seen through one person’s eyes. I’m not expressing that how I want to, but I’ll try to say it better some other time. There are things that are surprising and things I’ve seen many times that are approached differently. That is exciting to read.

In this poem, I like the way the birds chosen seem to dictate the imagery and the way it felt like a solitude being filled by an abundance. The innate abundance of earth? I don’t know. There are birds everywhere and even though we can’t understand each other, we see something of ourselves in them. And somehow it helps to imagine they can see the world as we do. I know I always find myself offering birds human traits anyway.

I liked the creativity. And the exploration of the poem. My favorite image was the magpies building ladders. The poem shows a keen sense of observation and brings me into that world. A bit of whimsical frustration.

I really enjoyed this.
