Feeding The Ducks In Winter

Feeding The Ducks In Winter

A Poem by arcandon

So here we are again

feeding the ducks in winter

i knew they'd be waiting, yes i saw

on the ice as it cracked and splintered

so unconfusing, with so much to say

with the wings that flapped

nothing cryptic, but with our feeding

would they be trapped?

i survived once sadness, before i knew what it was

the sadness rolled off me like the oil from your wings

 but stayed

they wouldn't be afraid and run with you close by

even come up close to the surface and stand idly by

at a small gap of water near them jagged teeth

the ice grew and hollered and broke and stressed apart there

but i stayed by your side and wouldn't fly

if you wouldn't

there was no more bread

the ducks weren't shy

the sun felt generous too

wanted us i guess, to be our best

fed in winter

to come up for air from time to time

spring back from disappointment

build a home

look each other directly through

and fly together

even in winter

because we love each other

we love each other

we do
