A Letter Written in a Heavy-handed Manner

A Poem by No One Important
"

Maybe one of my best works...

"

Anxiety
an emotion I feel all too often
looking at a beautiful women
when I am expected to do something miraculous
peering through the veil to see if i can understand the other side
whether it is an argument or just a simple discussion

Doubt
an emotion I feel is directed at me a bit to often
and i have succumbed more than once
it is a sweet feeling to be immersed
seductive to let yourself slip away and ride it to unnecessary conclusions
Even if they aren't quite right or proper

Need
an emotion that can go way too far
and a word I have uttered with alarming facility and constancy
even more comforting than doubt
it will implore you to sink into its myriad depths and sing its praises
and will make you dance to its saucy tune

Want
not so much an emotion as a wish
to want something is to be gulled by need and maybe pushed by doubt
to think it is too selfish to want makes us want all the more
it is subtle and pervasive, growing into something grand from a simple wish
deviously deceptive and deliciously daring in its audacity

Like
softest of emotions and mistaken for others just as often
Like is a weak thing usually subsumed by the powerful ones and set aside
we cannot always grasp its eccentricities
and fathom all its quirks and melodramas
but we will fall into it all too hard

Love
as dangerous an emotion as there ever was
it can topple governments and raze cities
destroy societies and ravage families
but it can be the sweetest drug you can find
bringing a high that you won't come down from
and that makes it both priceless and expensive
love is a thing most of us think we crave
when need is whispering in our ear with its serpent's tongue
we think were are in love when anxiety is breathing down our necks
and when want takes over for need
when like rears its fragile head we let love take it down
and that can be when sadness comes in and smashes it all to the ground
but love is different from all these before
and of this it can be truly said
Love can make the world go 'round, spring eternal
and turn our collective heads
but it also sends us into outer space
and pleads for others to be spared
allows us to be selfless instead of selfish
and shows what to dread
we sing and pray for love to come our way
and damn that is right
but what we do not seem to see
is when its out of sight
love turns to the worst of things
and spins to hate's caress
dances to envy's tune
and yearn for melancholy sadness
love is grand and we should strive for it
but let it not out of sight
for it becomes at the drop of a hat
the emotions we most dislike

This was good! I loved the structure and the flow! I think it unique and clever. I like the meaning behind each word at the start of the stanzas! Great work!

I love how you seemed to work your way though the other emotions with speed, only to linger in love.
Not only did you relay the obvious, but the way you handled the verse gave the impression of a man who had found at last where he wanted to be, while hating that he wanted to be there.

Michael, this is absolutely awesome, one of the best I have read in quite a while, you hit the nail on the head in each of your descriptions, very well done. Made me smile, with its truthfulness.

Good work in a unique and memorable frame...I smiled to see how much longer the love section was...and isn't that the way it truly is...?

The first half was my favorite...so many lines there I really liked such as ...'I am expected to do something miraculous...'

Very, very good.

(Takes a deep breath, and then another) You have really dug deep into truth here. I love philosophical poetry. This is brilliantly connected and reasoned, and so well said, as in diction, syntax, voice, ect. Right now, I'm in the stage of the emotions we dislike about love. Luckily, that's when I feel most inspired to write.

A typo and a grammar mistake I found, the correction is in all capitals:

but it can be the sweetest DRUG you can find
is when IT'S out of sight

Watch out for those apostrophes.

Have a nice day!
