Just FriendsA Poem by Rose"His hugs are so sweet that who needs his kisses..."One of his friends said “You make a great couple” when we were walking side-by-side. We looked at each other and I held my breath, to see what my friend would decide. He laughed and said “We’re just friends,” and so I smiled and laughed along, but I had to wonder as we went What if to him I could belong? For once in my life I knew what I felt, but still I feared pulling him nearer. I wanted so much to figure this out; I needed things to be clearer. I couldn’t bear to lose him, and while we stayed friends I could still have his hugs every day. His hugs are so sweet that who needs his kisses. And so “just friends” we will stay. My heart’s so afraid of the drastic height that’s necessary to achieve flight. Nevertheless, I’ will stand upright and try not to be overcome by fright. I’ll keep my eyes open for any time he might begin to see me in a different light, for then I may escape this plight and try to reach my shining knight.
