A Poem by Lydia Thacker

Your ears are closed to spoken word
As though my voice did cloy
But then protest when I inquire
Its sound you do enjoy

Which is it, Love? Please tell me true?
Or games to you prefer?
Because my heart can't take the strain
Of being so unsure.

I knew love once, or thought I did,
Until my soul knew you
But now I find what I once had
Was broken and untrue

I let you in, right through my walls
For you, gates opened wide
But happiness is what I fear
From that I can not hide
