FIRST PRODUCTION I WAS IN, ALICE IN WONDERLAND.A Poem by ArabellaMortimerHendryfirst of many blogs about the plays i have been involved inThe first production i was in was "Alice In Wonderland". The crazy yet beautifully outrageous, contrasting characters. Alice in wonderland is truly one of a kind. despite the fact that many speculate that Lewis Carroll was on drugs whilst writing "Alice in Wonderland", i however could not care less. The story is a very outgoing and very courage's piece, for the time era it was published in ( The Victorian era) The story has always fascinated me, and im sure many other people. The possibility of entering a "Wonderland" wonderful wired world. Where mushrooms are around every corner, and a mammal runs around with a pocket watch. When you get engrossed in tea parties that have lived on in an endless time loop. And most of all when you are tried and tested at your croquet skills. The tense atmosphere, filled the auditorium, as school pupils filed in. Talking about what parts they were hoping to get. The drama teacher stood in-front of the anxious school children, with a piece of paper in her elderly hands. I was given the roles: Cheesier cat,Bandersnatch, chorus, mother oyster. Due to the fact that i was in year 7-8 at the time of this production. I did not act out the full potential that "my characters" had. With every performance im in, I of course. Try and imagine what it would be like to live in that particular situation/world. Also i try and think like my character and how they would react to things, going on around them. The set design for the production was, very well done. and it was not long before the first night. The excited mutterings of the cast, as the peeked through the curtains into the audience to see who was there. And in one corner of the "backstage room" people were going over there lines. I love the atmosphere leading up to a performance. Its like an adrenaline rush. Hearing the chattering of the audience hyped you up even more, especially when you had family coming to watch. And then, the loud chattering of the audience simmered down. The drama teacher stepped out infront of them and introduced them to the performance. The Rehearsal stage was over. It had all been leading up to this moment. The months of learning the choreography for the "Lobster Quadrill" and helping out with the prop making. Being tested on lines and pacing back and forth , wondering if it was going to be alright on the night! was over. What lay infront of us was a challenge of skill. It was our chance to prove ourselves to the people out there, and most of all to not let ourselves down. I had been in a production of Alice in Wonderland before this one. However i was in year six so for obvious reasons, i did not write about that one. The clicking sound of the hall lights went off. Lights dimmed and the melody started playing. Overall the production was well done. But I was never truly satisfied with my acting after a show. I always think i could of done better and that i was going to do better next time. I push myself to make people laugh on stage, when appropriate. My main aim in life is to bring joy to people. And this is just the first chapter of my journey.
