Average Jane

Average Jane

A Poem by Arabdha
"

she is the woman you see everyday..but never notice..

"

She was the girl you would see through..

living her life in a closed box..

where from  people like you refrain..

She was your average Jane..

She pulled her hair..

and tidied her gown..

ate a bowl of stew and donuts brown..

she was always there..

just that you never saw her..

She was your average Jane..

She dreamed of princes, castles and mountains..

Lived a world of witches and goblins..

She thought Narnia was a real place..

And hoped to go to Hogwarts some day..

You never noticed..

But she was always there..

To shed a silent tear..

When Sally dumped you for the guy next door..

And to sympathize with the underdog..

You were never there..

But oft she thought of you..

And wondered if you knew her name..

She walked the alleys and visited deserted houses..

Thought of what could have been..

Had things not ended  the way they had..

Her world was sad..

But she didn’t mind..

Her life was perfect..

Reality she had left behind..

She was your average Jane..

She breathed and hoped..

Wished and lived..

Years went by..

and she still walked the deserted lanes..

she was old and haggard..

Then one day she fell ill and died..

Her story had come to an end..

You didn’t notice she was gone..

Never even bothered to pay your respect..

Not that she would have held a grudge..

But you know ,you should have gone..

I heard she had a sad funeral..

Attended by a few..

Lone  she was..

Even in death..

You didn’t see it..

But her tombstone read-

“Rebecca Meyers..

Always there,forever invisible..”

She was your average Jane..

i often think of the "invisible" people in our world who never experience the parties and the accolades and thrills of others, but yet still have the thirst, hunger and desire for that which so many of us take for granted. blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. these are the meek. their reward is forthcoming. you are an enlightened soul for giving them their due. awesome write!

I am very moved by this wonderful story of woman who we hardly notice.
The sentence,"She was your average Jane.." works like spell and creates a sense
of guilt.
Congratulations,Arabdha!!!

You are most welcome, dear friend :-)
Original and fresh. A poignant poem full of emotion.

"She dreamed of princes, castles and mountains'"because what else could she do but to escape in 'fantasy land' because as a plain Jane, she was invisible to the end. And what a sad end and so true of millions of people in this World who die alone as if they had never existed. Wonderful write! Thank you for "Keeping The Dream Alive" ~ Helena

This is beautiful and sad. I really, really enjoyed this poem. The apathy of one, with the deeper motives of the average Jane. This was a truly lovely piece:) Great, great job!

What a sad girl...I see a bit of myself in her, and I am guessing a lot of people do too! I too am a fantasy geek...

Why the particular name Rebecca Meyers?

This is sad but true. I wonder how many average Janes are out there?

Average just means balanced to me....
I guess society only points out the extremes
this was a delightful and thought provoking piece
