THE DEATH OF A CHILD

Here she lies a pretty bud

Lately made of flesh and blood

Taken by their unruly violence

lying still forever silenced

Created by our lovely mother

Her life cut short and fully smothered

She never got to fully bloom

A lifeless figure in her tomb

Here she lies a pretty bud

Washed away in the morning’s flood

There are many varieties of violence, but none is worse than that which claims the life of a child.
