A knife in our backs- Justified Causes

A knife in our backs- Justified Causes

A Poem by Opeyemi Jide-Ojo

I watched me kill myself with a knife in my back…

I watched me kill a man with a knife in his back.

I watched a man kill a man with a knife in his back.

I watched a man kill me with a knife in my back-

And the dreams keep changing, same face, different voices.

Such is the end of reasons,

For the waves of passion that run through blood soaked veins

”My blood is thicker than yours” said the man with the knife,

“… He made my blood less red, I’ll make him pay”- so said the

Sword to the rifle, or the rifle to the sword.

Now we all have reasons to drive knives in our backs-

Call the party’s beginning; let’s feed on our inner beasts,

Or feed our inner beasts-

Summon the justified causes.

Humanity is the death of itself, end of its end,

And we have a thousand reasons to kill-

Our bloods run red with passioned heat,

Summon the justified causes.

Humanity is the death  of itself-

Let’s sit back and watch us die

With happy smiles on our face-

We have one face, and one end-

Nature and reason:

Human nature is the end of reason.
