Prelude

Prelude

A Poem by Opeyemi Jide-Ojo

Distance calls me and I answer; I do not know why

A voice calling out, like the faint whispers on breeze-

Indeed, is it? Beneath the reach of my mind,

Fathomless depths; I just know it’s there.

I leave me while I lay asleep

To the sole possess of myself,

Departing, led by sounds unknown, dead

To anyone living, perhaps dead-

Am I dead? If death is not but by this definition,

I’ll stay this way- I have the wisdom of a thousand sights,

A thousand whispers and a thousand secrets.

Beyond the binding boundaries hitherto confining me,

I defy earth, floating on the wings of the night,

Leaning to the voice calling out to me,

I may return if I may, else,

I’ll return when the voice calls you-

We meet, and it calls the next.
