Till the sun sets

Till the sun sets

A Poem by Opeyemi Jide-Ojo

The morning glows,

Echoes of blackness’ last survivors crisscross

The last shreds of the night skies,

While other creatures wait-we,

For the time of The Deliverance.

Unknown. Devils. Shadows that haunt our very deep,

Memories that make us cower and writhe in pleasurable agony-

We live in denial; it bites in the background.

Then we ask, how long more?

How long till the sweat ceases to crease our brows?

Till we find shelter from this freezing heat?

Pain so much we’ve lost the meaning of it...

We sing; cacophonies and tears in one unholy drool

Streaming down our cheeks,

Wails and growls mixed in a single brew,

Till the sun sets.

Howbeit, at that sunset,

As the sun loses its wrath, and in its place,

Mercy the cool washes on our beats,

Then our hearts will sing again,

As it sleeps; songs of hope-

Perhaps fate will smile again.

Perhaps. This is me.
