Nothing

Nothing

A Poem by Opeyemi Jide-Ojo

Black lights! And my shadows

Are brilliant,

A figure emerges from the flames,

Smoke, a true reflection of me,

Hazy, confused,

I live? Die?

Death is but an abstract concept,

Nonexistence lying in the middle of

My mind,

Formlessness reigns supreme.

Hell blows me cold.

Ghosts of ages long past

And passed, drift back to kiss me,

Reminding me of lives long lived.

Then I wonder, and in my silence

Loudly declare: ‘for in the beauty of

Nothing, is nothing found, and in every

Something, an element of nothing.’

Oh for that void to be filled by

Something I desire,

Nothing-

For I know not what it is.
