Hiding is a hindrance to gain the true spotlight

She’s in a theatre play called life

Filled with happiness but full of strife

A theatre play where actors have a cover to hide

And show the audience that they are fine

 

The curtain is up… and the actors start the stage play

Each of them has a mask to wear

And every character is working hard

To outshine and be the center of the spotlight

 

She wears her mask everyday

Like a daily make-up in her face.

A mask filled with different colors

To conceal the cracks in her soul

 

Hiding is the best way to make herself loved by the audience

Wearing her favorite mask will help her achieve it

It will help her fill the emptiness

And broken life she has that shattered into pieces

 

Now, before the curtain is down the spotlight is on her

But she is doubtful that she can still do it--

The hiding behind the mask

And keep the vastness of darkness inside.

This is a vivid & palpable description of how so many lives are lived. My mom was a hairdresser, so she was very concerned about appearances. Never went anywhere without her makeup. Could not even have a visitor without "putting her face on" . . . I did not realize until much later that this was so habitual on so many levels. Good poem Celestrial and so very true. How life is like a stage play. With all it's drama, acts, characters and masks we as humans wear.

Hello, I must say that many will be able to relate to this poem.
I'm afraid that's just how life is, in order to protect ourselves, we hide behind our mask
where people are able to accept us,without knowing cracks are beginning to unfold.
but for me, you don't have to be afraid. Don't hide behind that mask anymore, show the people around you who you truly are and even if they do not accept you, at least you stay true to yourself and you'll never let the crowd hide away your beauty.
