Hummingbird, Hummingbird

Hummingbird, Hummingbird

A Poem by April
"

Started out short, took a bit of time.

"

Hummingbird, Hummingbird
I’ve never heard you sing
as tall as my finger
you precocious thing

Too quick to chirp
wonder if you could
if you found a friend
I bet that you would

Taking without greed
your humble food
ignorant of bumblebees
lest they affect your mood

Your wings help you fly
yet they tie you down:
life giving water
can make one drown

Fly this way and that
don’t chase the flowers
enjoy the sunlight
give way to the hours

Care less of the thoughts
that make your body twitch
sighing and idling can
make an attitude switch

Love the surprises
that life loves to throw
the ups and downs
enable you to grow

No pouting, my dear
relax in your youth
lay uncertain in the plans
that God hath forsooth

Stay my baby;
my hummingbird and child
let me calm your fits,
hold you so soft and mild

Worries shall elude you
run and toddle free
the next time you fall
walk closer to me.

I would love critique on this. It was very one dimensional when I was first crafting it, I hope it still isn't! A bit story bookish and I do hate how much I rhyme! >.<

Really loved your poem. I am not a fan of rhymes but here, it wprks real well in order to paint this beautiful picture. You crafted your poem very well. We sense the desire of liberty, wanting to leave and be free. I may be way off. Your choice of words is really well done. Great job. We will more of your stuff.
