RADIO SILENCE

RADIO SILENCE

A Poem by April Child

So many ways to

say something…

email, text, phone,

smoke signals,

jungle drums,

a note sent by

carrier pidgeon.

The phone that

didn't ring, kept

me awake all night.

This reminds me of when I used to do drugs, and we'd be waiting all day for that f*****g phone to ring. And when it did ring, nine times out of ten it was someone we didn't want to talk to anyway. Dope dealers have a kind of magic power like that- they can keep you in one place just by giving you some thin f*****g promise. And then they somehow have carte blanche when it comes to pre-arranged deadlines. C***s and their phones...Anyway, I liked this one alot. Great job.

I really like this last stanza. Once again, you have a talent in confined space.

Very true . . . and a quiet phone says it all sometimes.

Not quite what I expected given the title, but good none the less. This is a tale I lived manytimes while dating, not to worry once you find the one, they will call just to hear the dead air of knowing you are on the other end of the line!

the inner life is you. the social settings are accoutrements. the moment in this poem resonates.

i really like the last 3 lines. i don't know that the rest of the poem is even necessary.

Interesting ... it took a moment to set in. All of those things that you listed ... and more way to say something, with one's silence.
