Forty

Forty

A Poem by April Child
"

Turning 40 is a milestone. This is an acrostic for a friend who has reached the milestone.

"

Finding ourselves in this the afternoon

Of  our day, life takes on new meaning, we

Raise our faces to the sun’s warm fingers

Trade in our numbing fear for excitement

Yesterday’s gone but we still have tomorrow...

What a beautiful tribute to a friend who has reached the "milestone"... sounds a lot more pleasant than "turning point" and a hell of a lot more attractive than "headstone"! This leaves the reader with the sense that the best is yet to come. I like it (in case you couldn't guess :)

Very sincere and utterly truthful tribute. You cannot be insightful and wishful all at once, but u managed to pull it off in style...Wishing you both the best of what life has ever to offer :)))) Keep smiling.

I'm sure your friend love this acrostic. It's charming but gosh, I wish I was forty again. Age is relative. If this is her afternoon its very early on. Maybe just going on 1:00. I'm far more advanced into the afternoon. And no matter how old you get you still have tomorrow and new possibilities in almost everything.

A greatly crafted acrostic to celebrate 40. I'm sure your friend was so happy to see your caring words. Thank you for sharing them with us. The last line really hits home. You have wonderful sentiment here.

This is great. I'm in the forty cat so I can say it fits perfectly. :+)

Btw, I hope your friend isn't sweating it, forty is great, it holds the best of both worlds.

I didn't notice this was an acrostic right off because I got so caught up in the beautifully expressed ideas here. This is a perfect tribute to growing older and to your friend. Well done :)

I love this - and am touched by the promise it makes to us - to our very soul. Yes we can, we should and we will.

I loved this. Being in the late afternoon myself - I could appreciate the thought and sentiment that you put to words so well!

Great job.
