geography on friday

A Poem by Vincent
"

i was bored in geography, and we were watching a video on the cold war.

"

goofy music fills the expanse of the room as camera zoom spans,
and historical view stance lulls in hand with teacher's lecture.
movies of past leading meetings and tales of rebellion stands,
and reports of bars, death, and unrest compromise best confecture.
valiant speeches of kennedy in foreign land bleaches
the communist iron fist of gorbachev's supression,
hoping to free the vast soviet alliance fo its leeches.
and later reagen in band does the same expression;
shacks pitched, tents stitched, coming to refuge from oppression,
huddled men, bundled children gather with mud-caked clothes
at a forign embassy to hear german discretion
with a finality of awaited freedom to disclose.
cheesy music fills the room again
as images of hurried chaos play the screen,
and refugees embrace freedom that might've never been.
too bad only one of us lived to see the said time when.
political puppets lined corners and plazas as men faceless
covered ground to hold the order of a ruler baseless.
yet again outdated scores in alien tongue blast as riot ensues,
suspended as innocent bystanders are abused with rioters too.
translations stating listed demands of a people deprived
in east german script voice dissent with revolt to ride.
the leaders loosen grip of commercial law, leaving
disbelievers in awe to a future none ever thought of seeing.
scenes of newcomers celebrate in earliest western morn
as they board ways laden with champagne to rid themselves of thorn.
and the procession leads on to the wall, where american beats debated
the fate of it all as throes of partiers are abated.
just to think that this event occured seventeen years ago;
hey, it looks like two were alive; wouldn't you ever know?
