Hold Your Tongue

Hold Your Tongue

A Poem by J.L. Davenport
"

CHANGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"
Skin so soft

Until the years past

Lovers make love

But it doesn't last

Clothes expensive

Now dingy or torn

All is experienced from the day you're born

Every human

World around

Rich or poor

Educated or lacking

In good sense, if yet that isn't sound

That you judge a man being his pigment

Red, yellow, beige or brown

Black or even blue

Or the pale they're judged too

You loathe yourself

Outward and inward

Self-pity

Is truly

What you've found

J.L. Davenport 2008

A continuation in light of Obama's win

How does it feel, grimacing face, narrow eyes and clenched up fist

Empty mind, closed ears and hardened heart

That your remote world of burning flags

White hoods and raggedy attire

Flaming mouth spout out about the world at large

Being alien to you

How does it feel that the blood on your hands

The tears that rained at your conniving

Are washed

Are dry

Are no more

The world has spoken
