Life is Bare

Life is Bare

A Poem by J.L. Davenport
"

The becoming of a woman by a bad man

"
When life is bare, it is sweet
It is beautiful and honest
It is love
Bare is the softness of the smooth skin
The beauty illuminating from within
The thinking and thought
The essentials of tender love
That only we can give
Pure as an angel's day
Is what we are
Is what we should be
Then he comes
Hard and rough like the dry bark of a tree
Mind as empty and sly as a donkey
How he detains you
With his stinking mouth
Wet and tarter tongue
Lying lizard of the swamp
With prying eyes on you or a few
He comes to make you gullible
To cause you unstable
Unbearable
He comes to tighten your skin
To make you greedy and arrogant
To want and wish
To loose your patience and therefore your blessings
To cause you pain
For your closeness to his bulky frame
He comes and takes away the light and beauty in your life
The once sweet and soft, the deepest joy
Is now hard and lost and full of anger
