Hypothetical romance

What our love would look like

We’ve never been in love

But if we were- it would be beautiful catastrophe

We would ruin one another

Feed off each-others minds

And prevail in a world full of agony

 

You’d taste like nicotine and wasted dreams

And resemble a movie star

I’d kiss your busted knuckles

As we lay breathlessly

In the backseat of your car

 

We’d stare into midst of nothingness

And our slumber would deprive

You’d be the epitome of every song

By the 1975

 

We’d drink cause there’s no tomorrow

Let me in your existential head

Tell me all the thoughts that roam your mind

When you’re all alone in bed

 

You’d be bad for me- I’d be worse for you

And together we’d never thrive

You’d be the absolute and utter most death of me

But I’d never feel more alive

Opposites are the pleasure we miss in being merely ourselves? An intriguing post written in clear and cleverly honest language, tongue in cheek maybe but.. worth a thought or so. Makes me smile...

I wish I had written this! I've always wanted to summarize all the bad romances I went thru in the late 1970's & 1980's! You must've been there, too! *wink! wink!* I love how this doesn't sound bitter . . . as many regret pieces do. There's a fun sarcastic playfulness that seems to urge us not to take our mistakes too personally. We all make 'em! This is a great approach toward the regret that often haunts in old age! Your review makes me happy I wrote it! I wrote it in a sense that it could be understood by most women, because they all have had (if not yet experiences) a toxic relationship, and yet unknowingly crave toxic traits in a relationship because they come with a lot of passion. I personally have never been through such, but since this poem is hypothetical, it seems I might want a very passionate slightly toxic relationship with the man I write about (who really doesn’t exist)
