By the Daydream

By the Daydream

A Poem by Apebble

I once prayed for an angel-

Pleaded for a bringer of peace.

That someone may, from these chains

Grant me my release

No voice was ever heard,

Only thunder mocking my plea.

All alone, the chains wore my skin-

The only comforter? Me.

I told myself stories,

Scrawled poems on the prison of my mind

Through myself I saw freedom,

And freedom was all I wished to find.

Whispering tale after tale,

Some of heroes, some of sorrow-

The world became my lonely cell,

Each story begging the dawn to bring tomorrow

These rusted chains,

These burdens upon my naïve soul,

Grew lighter by the daydream-

With every minute my mind stole.

Then the shackles released,

The world exposed yet again-

Though scars of this past stay with me,

A new life I am prepared to begin.

I once prayed for an angel,

Begging they may return me my peace.

But my prison was not theirs to empty.

For only within myself could I be released.
