The Legend of the Angel and the Witch - A story that has lots to teach...

“Come closer and have a sit” he said “Let me tell you a story”…

“Once upon a time, there was an innocent, bright little boy with an angelic face and a pure little heart filled with love. He had never seen anything bad and had never experienced any malice in his few years of life.

One day, an old ugly woman who lived her whole life in the forest away from peoples eyes, came to the village and everyone run to see her. Frightened of her ugliness, people called her a Witch and threw stones at her in an attempt to fend her off.

The Witch fell on the ground in pain and tried to cover her ugly face from the frightened mob, hoping they would go away…. And they did!

The little, blond boy saw what happened and naïve and innocent as he was, he felt sorry for her and approached her and handed her a red rose with a bright smile. The Witch then smiled back at him and with her last breath she thanked him with an advice.

She said: “Don’t ever tell them how ugly they are, those who hate you and are disgusted by you, but still stand and stare at you! And never, ever look at anyone straight in the eyes, as eyes are the mirror of your soul and mirrors can easily be broken into thousands of tiny pieces”

The boy kept that advice safe and sound close to his heart for the years that followed and as the years went by, he got older and wiser and when the time was right and the boy was a young, handsome man, he decided to leave the ugly village and make his own life away from the ugliness of the villagers.

A few more years went by and one day, the hunters of the same village went hunting out in the forest. They walked around for hours looking for a prey until they came across the river and in the river they saw a beautiful, blond Angel in all his glory, bathing in the crystal clear waters. The shot at him and threw knives until they injured him and eventually captured him.

They brought the bright Angel back to the village in a cage and put him on display for the bewildered mob to buy tickets and see. Everyone was buying tickets to see the beauty of the injured Angel, throwing flowers at him, praying and asking him for a miracle.

Among the people that bought tickets to see the beautiful Angel, was a bright little child that approached him and offered him a cup of water to drink and a loaf of bread to eat. The wounded Angel looked up to the child and thanked him with an advice.

He said: “If you want to be saved from your cursed beauty, pick an axe or one of those swords and chop your wings off. And never, ever look at anyone straight in the eyes, as eyes are the mirror of your soul and mirrors can easily be broken into thousands of tiny pieces.”

“Come closer and have a sit” the Angel said “Let me tell you a story”…….

Honestly - this story confused me. The second last paragraph - who is "he"? Who's actually talking there... the child, the former boy who met the witch, the angel? I really couldn't tell. I'm not sure what the moral is supposed to be either... that people are just jerks no matter whether you're ugly or beautiful? That you should never look anyone in the eye or trust anyone? A rather sad moral that never allows for any friendship or intimacy ;-) Well, maybe I just missed the point entirely, so perhaps you could tweak the story a bit to make it clearer?

Cheers,

Kali

About
Stories popped in my mind since I was a child. Sometimes short, brief passages, sometimes just ideas of an event and some other times a full length scenario, so I started noting them down bit by bit... more..
