Crimson - Scene 6

Crimson - Scene 6

A Chapter by ApKWrites

Waltham Cross - North London

Jackson returns home at the early hours of Sunday morning and walks straight into his office; he throws his keys on the desk and unlocks the safe that’s hidden behind the abstract painting hanging on the wall. He, then, slowly removes his gun and knife from his belt and locks them in.

He quietly makes his way to the bathroom, takes his clothes off, turns the hot water on and steps under the shower. The water is boiling hot and his fair skin turns red almost instantly but he barely notices. All he can think about is Flint’s words “Those freaks are no children of mine… we need to do what needs to be done”. He clenches his hands into fists and leans on the cold tiles of the shower, his head down, trying to drown any emotions he might have and he repeats “We need to do what needs to be done”

He steps out of the shower, his skin crimson red from the heat, water dripping on the floor creating a small pond, and he throws a towel around his waist before he makes his way to the bedroom.

He sits on the bed and kisses his wife’s forehead gently, trying not to wake her up, then he drops the towel on the floor and gets under the covers.

“Hey, you are back” she opens her eyes and smiles at him.

He turns his back to her and lays down, closing his eyes and hoping she will go back to sleep so he won’t have to tell her about the child.

She slowly sits up on the bed and strokes his short, blond hair and whispers “Bruce, what’s wrong?

Is everything ok?”

Bruce then, reluctantly, turns around and sits up as well “Daisy, I…” he stops himself and Daisy’s happy face fades away and it becomes grim and dark, as if she knows what he was about to say and Bruce knows that he has to tell her before Flint sends his team to collect.

“They…they want the child back” he says in brittle voice while trying to drown any emotions.

“No! No, they cannot do that” she replies and starts crying “We raised him! Bruce, you can’t let them…Liam is our son...please…” she begs him.

He takes her in his arms, knowing that he cannot comfort her, that nothing he could do would stop Flint from taking his son away. He gives her a kiss on the forehead and whispers “I’m so sorry, honey…I cannot stop them…I’m so sorry!”

Daisy lies down on the bed crying and he knows he just broke her heart and that she would never forgive him.

Aha! Some threads are connected :-) I had to take a quick look at the previous chapters since it's been a while but this is the family from chapter two, right? Not much happening in the scene but in combination with the previous one it has a rather dark atmosphere... so well done!
Only thing I noticed style-wise was this sentence: "He holds his hands into fists..." Don't know, but I kept thinking that "... clenched his hands into fists..." would sound better.

Stories popped in my mind since I was a child. Sometimes short, brief passages, sometimes just ideas of an event and some other times a full length scenario, so I started noting them down bit by bit... more..
